Board of Directors 2024

Kriscinda Hansen

I am a Washington native - albeit the Eastern side of the state.

I went to school at Eastern WA University,  dabbled in a bit of everything because I was interested in EVERYTHING (started pre-vet med, hopped to psychology, then to school of business where I thought I wanted to be a CPA, ended up with a business degree with majors in marketing, HR and management). Finished undergrad during an economic recession, took my advisor's advise and applied for grad school. I have a Masters in Business Admin and a Masters in Public Asmin (pro tip: NEVER do companion program degrees).

While in my masters program, I took an Entrepreneurship course where business plan writing was required - my team authored one for a friend's family. We gave it to them after it was graded. They actually implemented it and had their first year breaking a million dollars revenue - thst was pretty awesome to see.

I moved to this side of the state as I was finishing up my degree because I knew I wanted to work for the state and there aren't many opportunities for that in Eastern WA.

I worked at the Insurance Commissioner's Office for 14.5 years, working my way up from a payables analyst to fiscal supervisor - which I did for 8 years before moving on the the Gambling Commission as CFO.

I volunteer for Performance Excellence Northwest, which is affiliated with the national Baldrige program. Organizations submit their applications to us and we review and provide feedback, help identify areas that they may want to focus on for improvement, and help them be more efficient, integrated businesses.

I'm currently (literally) working on a certification in Organizational Change Management, and have taken courses in facilitation and project management.

I am an avid Crossfitter - it has had a huge positive impact on managing my anxiety and my mental health in general.

I crochet and knit, and like to listen to audio books or watch random series on Netflix or Hulu while I do so (always looking for recommendations for both!).

As y'all are aware, we have a gaggle of dogs - our four are Gizmo (8 y.o. chihuahua/papillon), Teckel (11 y.o. mini short hair weenie), Schnitzel (12 y.o. long/wire hair mini weenie), and Lila (13 y.o. rat terrier). Fosters already currently Dagna, Sadie, and Happy. We've fostered since Sept 2015 and these three are numbers 8, 9, and 10.

We've both always had dogs in our lives, except for brief periods of flux and change.

Strong points: I think I'm a good leader and I like mentoring. I'm a whiz with spreadsheets and I'm passionate about diverse teams and everyone having a voice.

Weaknesses/things to work on: I'm a TERRIBLE note taker. I don't retain anything when I take notes, so I just sit and listen. I'm not good at small talk, and can be pretty blunt at times, which I've received feedback that it can be perceived as blaming.

Born in British Hong Kong, I left home at a young age to attend boarding high school in Canada. After high school I attended UC Irvine and received my B.S. in Electrical Engineering and B.S. in Computer Science. After graduation I started working in IT for an engineering company. Within a few years I was recruited to work for a technology consulting firm. Disillusioned with unethical business practices, I joined with a couple friends to start our own tech consulting practice when I was 25 and in a short time, built an extensive portfolio of large clients in Southern California.

I moved to Pacific Northwest in 2002 to join my now husband who relocated here for his job in 2000 because we believe this is a much nicer area to raise a family. While I do miss the California sunshine, I love the abundance of natural beauty, clean air, and down to earth people here. Over the years, I developed my hobby of rehabbing homes into a portfolio of income properties that afforded me the flexibility I wanted to spend time with my family.

My skills and strength developed from my work history and businesses I owned lie in technology, project management, financial management, problem identification and creative solution. I’m passionate about animal welfare, love spending time with friends, reading, cooking, eating, fitness, and chilling at our beach cabin watching for whales.

Born in Ulm, Montana, I moved to Seattle in October 2005 where I worked towards a BFA at The Art Institute of Seattle, majoring in Media Arts and Animation.  I graduated with honors in 2008 and worked at a small pet store through that time and after.  This started my love affair with all things animals.  I started painting and drawing peoples' pets during that time as gifts and then started my business shortly after that.

I run two businesses from my home studio, custom pet portraits and graphic design for small businesses.  You may have seen some of my work on an Old Dog Haven t-shirt or a flyer or two at The Seattle Barkery. I specialize in packaging, logo and branding design.

I live in North Seattle in a cottage my husband and I built with our two rescue dogs, Aggie, an 11-year-old Pittie Boxer brindle snuggle bug, and Gracie Belle, a 4-year-old rottweiler who I fear will be forever in her terrible twos.

I love crafting, and my favorite thing to make is tiny hats for people and their pets while I watch football (Go Vikings!), true crime documentaries or listen to podcasts and audiobooks. I have been an advocate for Multiple Sclerosis ever since my sister was diagnosed in 2015, and I was diagnosed in 2021. Since then, I have switched to an anti-inflammatory diet (plant-based plus fish), which has helped me to remain free of any new activity for a year now. I also enjoy baking and experimenting with healthy variations of my favorite desserts.

I believe my strengths are my exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail. As a visual learner, I enjoy sketching out ideas while taking notes. I am also adept at finding creative solutions to problems, and I love collaborating with like-minded individuals during brainstorming sessions. However, my weaknesses include overthinking and appearing disinterested in new environments. I sometimes need additional time to process and retain information, and I find it helpful to take detailed notes to refer back to later.
